The late afternoon sun warmed Amelia's face as she sat on the porch swing, the rhythmic creak of the chains a familiar comfort. A glass of iced tea, sweating in her hand, tasted like summer. She'd been going through her mother's things, sorting through boxes of photos and old letters, when she'd found the list. "Bucket List," scrawled in her mother's elegant handwriting. Curiosity, more than anything, had propelled her to read it.

The first item was "See the Northern Lights." Amelia chuckled, picturing her mother, bundled in a parka, marveling at the aurora borealis. She sipped her tea, the sweetness a balm to her soul. She wondered if she'd ever get the chance to see the lights herself.
